About Me

My name is Wesley Wright. I am an Admissions Counselor at the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. I am also a candidate for a MA of International Education Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS) located in Monterey, CA. I expect to graduate December 2022. Having grown up around the University of Michigan my whole life, it has been a dream come true to be able to work here in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. I am dedicated to making U-M's campus as supportive, diverse, and inclusive as possible, and I am hear to support all students that having an interest in taking their first steps in pursuing higher education.

❖ Recruit and manage territories of Livingston and Northwest Oakland counties, Westchester/Up-State New York, and South Asia.

❖ Engage with the public and guide them through admissions process.

❖ Plan office programs and events that support our prospective students and families.

❖ Collaborate with program team to manage state-wide opioid project of AmeriCorps VISTA members in all ten economic prosperity regions of Michigan.

❖ Responsible for procuring grants and building partnerships with non-profits and health systems across the state.

❖ Lead trainings and create relevant materials for the program. Developed Community Assessment guide for AmeriCorps members to collect essential information on the opioid epidemic in their communities.

❖ Completed a comprehensive practicum training with high school students focusing on HIV/AIDS and harm reduction, resulting in an increase of knowledge in HIV/AIDS prevention.

❖ Conducted SWOT Analysis, Community Mapping, and Participatory Action for Community Analysis tools with NAC. These exercises helped NAC better understand where to allocate its resources in the community to effectively achieve increased knowledge of HIV/AIDS harm reduction methods.

❖ Achieved Intermediate-Mid proficiency in Zulu language.

❖ Supervised 120 volunteers on more than 15 infrastructure projects to increase home accessibility for Pine Ridge residents.

❖ Organized weekly expeditions to five historically significant sites on the Pine Ridge Reservation to educate volunteers on the history of systemic racism facing the Oglala-Lakota.
